Giani Zail Singh was born in Punjab on May 5, 1916. He was an Indian politician and member of the Congress Party. In March 1972, he became the chief Minister of Punjab. In 1980, Giani Zail Singh became Union Home Minister. In 1982, he was elected as the the seventh President of India, and the first Sikh to hold India`s highest public office and honour, and held office till July 25, 1987. Giani Zail Singh died in December 25, 1994.
