The Tamilnadu State Council for Science and Technology (TNSCST), was established as an apex body to promote research and developmental activities, on the 31st March 1984 by an order of the State Government and has been registered as a society under the Registration of Societies Act.

To maintain liaison between Government of India and the State Government and to initiate, direct and co-ordinate research activities of Government Departments, Universities and other professional Bodies with a view to aid development of Scientific Research in the State.
