ADMISSION TO BIT MCA PROGRAMME - 2009

Applications are invited for admission to the full-time Master of Computer Applications (MCA) Programme 2009-2012, at Mesra and our Extension Centres at Allahabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lalpur and Noida. Please click link for addresses and contact details of Centres.

Eligibility: (Detailed Eligibility Criteria )

1. Candidates must hold a recognized Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (minimum in 10+2+3 system), in any of following:

a) BCA, or

b) B.Sc. in Computer Science / Information Technology / Electronics, or

c) B.Sc. / B.A. with Mathematics or Statistics at graduate level.

2. Candidates of B.Sc. / B.A. Honours must have minimum 60% (45% for SC/ST) marks in average in their Honours subject. Candidates of BCA and other graduate courses must have minimum 60% (45% for SC/ST) marks in average in graduation, marks to be computed as average of marks obtained in ALL subjects in which candidate has appeared (excluding optional subjects).
3. Candidates graduating in 2009 can also apply, provided they can submit marksheets by 31 October 2009. Also, at the time of applying, they must have requisite marks as above, based on latest grades / marks. (Please click link for detailed Eligibility Criteria)
4. Candidates with qualifications acquired through correspondence or distance-learning programmes are eligible only if they acquired such qualifications as working professionals / while in employment.

Selection Procedure:

Online Entrance Test on 23 and 24 May 2009 at Allahabad, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Mumbai, Noida, Patna and Ranchi. It is proposed to hold the MCA 2009 Online Entrance Test at the following Test Centres - Allahabad, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Mumbai, Noida, Patna and Ranchi - provided there are sufficient number of candidates at each of the given Test Centres. In case the number of candidates opting for a given Test Centre is less than a certain minimum, the Institute reserves the right to shift candidates to the nearest alternative Centre.

How to Apply:

The MCA 2009 Application Material including the Information Brochure 2009 can be obtained from all our Centres :

(a) In person from 18 March 2009 to 27 April 2009 on payment of Rs. 1,200/- and

(b) By post on payment of Rs. 1,250/- (All payments by crossed DD in favour of Birla Institute of Technology, payable at Ranchi). Postal requests must be received by 22 April 2009, and must include covering letter & two slips of paper (10x10 cm) with name, address in capitals and telephone number. To apply for the programme, eligible candidates may EITHER
(a) Fill in the printed form, available with the MCA 2009 Application Material, and send the completed form with 2 photographs and photocopies of all certificates, to reach the office of the Dean Admissions, Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Ranchi 835215, by 30 April 2009, OR
(b) Fill in the online application form (Click here) , and send a printout of the completed form with 2 photographs, crossed DD for Rs. 1,200/- in favour of Birla Institute of Technology, payable at Ranchi, and photocopies of certificates by 30 April 2009, at the same address. On receipt of the completed form and DD, eligible online applicants will be sent a copy of the MCA 2009 Application Material and Information Brochure 2009 for reference.

Counselling: Counselling schedules of candidates will be based on their performance in the above Test, and will be notified by 7 June 2009, on the Institute website and Notice Boards only. The counselling will be held tentatively between 13 to 22 June 2009 at Allahabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Mesra and Noida, at the addresses provided. No separate intimation will be sent to candidates. Candidates must visit our website occasionally for updates or any other matters related to the admission procedures.

Provisional selections for the MCA programme will be based on performance in the Online Entrance Test of such candidates who have applied, provided they satisfy the minimum eligibility criteria mentioned above. Provisional selection lists, along with procedures for admissions, will be notified the day after the counselling, on the Institute website and Notice Boards of the Institute / concerned Extension Centres only. No separate intimation will be sent to candidates. Provisionally selected candidates will be required to take admission by the date given, failing which vacant seats may be allotted to waitlisted candidates. The list of waitlisted candidates will also be announced on our website and Institute Notice Boards only. No separate intimation will be sent to candidates. Candidates must therefore visit our website occasionally for updates or any other matters related to the admission procedures.

Admission to the PG Diploma In Language Technology 2008
(A Non-Residential Programme)

Birla Institute of Technology will offer a one-year (two semester) programme – Postgraduate Diploma in Language Technology (DLT) – under the aegis of the Dept. of Communication and Information Technology, Government of India. The academic activities for the first batch of students will commence from 26 September 2008 with an intake of 30 students. The programme has been designed to train students in the field of Language Technology, and will empower them to use local languages for software development. Classes will be held in the evenings from 6 pm to 9 pm at Birla Institute of Technology Extension Centre, Lalpur, Ranchi. No Hostel facilities will be provided

Course Fee

The course fee of Rs. 15,000/- is to be paid in two instalments i.e. Rs. 9,750 /- (including Rs. 4,500 /- as Admission fees) to be paid at the beginning of the first semester and Rs. 5,250/- to be paid at the beginning of the second semester.

Number of Seats and Reservations

The total number of seats is 30 and the reservation of seats is as given below:
SC – 5 seats, ST – 5 seats, PH – 1 seat, General – 19 seats

Eligibility Criteria for DTL

a) Candidates must have passed in ALL subjects in which they have appeared in Class 10 (excluding optional subjects) with minimum 50% (45% for SC/ST) marks in average. Marks in Class 10 to be computed as average of marks obtained in ALL subjects in which candidate has appeared (excluding optional subjects)
b) Candidates must have passed in ALL subjects in which they have appeared in Class 12 (excluding optional subjects) with minimum 50% (45% for SC/ST) marks in average. Marks in Class 12 to be computed as average of best 5 subjects in which candidate has appeared, (excluding optional subjects) but including required subjects
c) Candidates must hold a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India/AIU. This degree must entail a minimum of three years of education (10+2+3 system) after completing higher secondary schooling (Class 12 or equivalent)
d) Candidates of B.Sc. / B.A. / B. Com. Honours must have minimum 50% (45% for SC/ST) marks in average in their Honours subject. Candidates of other graduate courses must have minimum 50% (45% for SC/ST) marks in average in graduation, marks to be computed as average of marks obtained in ALL subjects in which candidate has appeared (excluding optional subjects)

How to Apply

The prescribed form and information leaflet will be available from BIT Extension Centre Lalpur from 4 September 2008 to 16 September 2008, on payment of Rs. 300/- by crossed Bank Draft only, in favour of Birla Institute of Technology, payable at Ranchi. The completed form must be deposited latest by 4 pm on 16 September 2008 at the office of the Director, BIT Extension Centre Lalpur, Ranchi, 834001.

To apply for the programme, eligible candidates may either

(a) Fill in the printed form, procured from Lalpur Centre, and submit the completed form with all enclosures (2 photographs, photocopies of all certificates), at BIT Lalpur, Ranchi, 834001, by above date, OR,
(b) Download, print and fill the application form on our website, and submit with crossed Demand Draft for Rs. 300/- as above and all enclosures (2 photographs, photocopies of all certificates), by the same date at the same address.

Selection Procedure

Admission to the programme will be on the basis of previous academic record and personal interviews. Candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of their previous academic record. The list of shortlisted candidates will be announced on 17 September 2008 only on our website: http://www.bitmesra.ac.in and the Notice Boards of the Institute at Mesra and BIT Extension Centre Lalpur, Ranchi. No separate intimations will be sent to candidates. Interviews will be conducted at BIT Extension Centre Lalpur, Ranchi on 21 September 2008. All candidates selected for interviews must carry with them originals of all required certificates and documents for verification.
