Top Heart Attack Fighters - Tomatoes

Tomatoes are rich in folic acid that helps to protect the heart from the action of harmful amino acid. The 'lycopene' pigment present in tomatoes not only imparts the attractive red colour but also helps lower LDL cholesterol (bad cholesterol) in the blood. Cooked tomatoes are recommended as lycopene content increases with cooking, but raw tomatoes in salads are also healthy.

The tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) is a plant in the Solanaceae or nightshade family, as are its close cousins tobacco, chili peppers, potato, and eggplant. The tomato is native to Central, South, and southern North America from Mexico to Peru.
