BASIC TEACHERS' TRAINING COLLEGE
Basic Teachers Training College started in 1953 with TTC course. In 1954, the course was replaced by Basic STC. The degree courses were started in 1956, postgraduate in 1958 and the facility for Ph.D. added in 1968. In 1993, the Institute of Advanced Studies in Education (IASE) came into being, under the centrally sponsored scheme. Today, it is reckoned as India's premiere institute of Education, facilitating teachers' training from pre-primary to doctoral stage. It also bears the additional special charge to improve the quality of teaching at all levels, through specific courses devised for training of in-service teachers.
Admission to M.Ed, B.Ed, STC and NTT are through Pre-Admission Tests conducted by the State Government whereas, MA Education & M.Phil. by merit and Ph.D. through in-house entrance examination.
The courses conducted by this co-educational unit are – Ph.D. (Edu.), M.Phil. (Edu.), M.Ed., M.A (Edu.), B.Ed., STC and NTT. The number of seats available in each course is fixed 21 scholars have since been awarded Ph.D. in Education and the research work of 17 more students is in progress.
