The Pondicherry University was established in October 1985 by the Government of India through an Act of Parliament. Being a Central University it is fully supported by the University Grants Commission. The University is a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities and has signed Memorandum of Understanding with several foreign Universities/ Institutes.

Distance Education

Pondicherry University entered the field of distance education in the year 1995 - 96. The Courses offered are innovative and job oriented. The MBA courses in Marketing, Finance, International Business, Human resources Management are some of the very first program to be launched through distance mode in the entire Asian continent.

Pondicherry University is a Central University, established by an Act of Parliament (53 of 1985). The Directorate of Distance Education was started in 1995 and is offering 4 MBA Programmes (Marketing, Finance, International Business and Human Resource Management), 16 Post Graduate Programes including MBA, 16 PG Diploma Programmes and 7 Under Graduate Programmes.
