Considering the importance and need for human resource with research skills to promote systematic development of Distance Education System in the Country, the Indira Gandhi National Open University through its Staff Training and Research Institute of Distance Education, opens admission to M.Phil. in Distance Education from January 2010.

Programme Contents

The M.Phil programme in Distance Education is of 48 Credits (including 32 Credits of Course work and 16 Credits of Dissertation work). The Course Work component consists of Research Methodology, Information and Communication Technology, Web-based Education, Contexts and Concerns of Distance Education, and Term Paper and Seminar. It also has compulsory component of two face-to-face interventions of five days each. Medium of instruction shall be English, and scholars will receive one-to-one mentoring facility from the course coordinator through the use of various communication technologies.

Duration

The duration for M.Phil Programme shall be 18 months (minimum) and four years (maximum).

Eligibility for Admission

Applications are invited from interested students having a Post Graduate degree in Distance Education (MADE of IGNOU) or Post Graduate degree in Education (M.Ed. Or MA (Ed.)) from any university or a recognized institution of higher learning.

Rs 10500/- (for Indian Students)

How to Apply

Prospectus for M.Phil in Distance Education can be obtained from the Registrar (SRD), IGNOU, Maidan Garhi, New Delhi-110 068 by sending a sum of Rs. 800/- through Demand Draft drawn in favour of IGNOU payable at New Delhi or by paying Rs. 750/- in cash at the University sale counter. Please write your name and address in back of the DD. Application From and Prospectus can also be downloaded from the website and submitted along with a DD of Rs. 750/-.

Selection Process

Admission will be through a selection test held at IGNOU Headquarters, Maidan Garhi, New Delhi on October 18, 2009. The syllabus for the entrance test shall be the course contents of PGDDE and MADE programmes of IGNOU. Number of seats available for January 2010 session is 24.

Last date of application is September 30, 2009. Filled-in application form along with relevant documents should be submitted to: The Director, Research Unit, IGNOU, Room No. 3, Block 6, Maidan Garhi, New Delhi- 110068.
