Test For ICMR's Junior Research Fellowship

ICMR in collaboration with PGIMER, Chandigarh will hold a National Level Examination for the award of Junior Research Fellowships (JRF), for Indian national candidates at Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata Mumbai, Hyderabad and Guwahati on Sunday, July 12th, 2009.

A total of 150 Fellowships would be awarded; 120 fellowships awarded in Life Sciences stream (like Microbiology, Physiology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Human Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, Biophysics, Immunology, Pharmacology, Zoology, Environmental Sciences, Botany, Veterinary Sciences etc), and thirty (30) fellowships in social sciences stream (like Psychology, Sociology, Home Science, Statistics, Anthropology, Social work & Health Economics).

Application form duly completed must reach the Registrar; Academic Section PGIMER, Chandigarh-160012 by registered/Speed post on or before 29.04.2009. Candidate from remote areas /regions may submit their application forms duly completed latest by 06.05.2009.

Eligibility:

Educational: M.Sc/M.A or equivalent degree with minimum 55% marks for General/OBC Candidates and 50% for the SC/ST & Physically Handicapped (PH) candidates in the subjects mentioned above. Candidates appearing in the final year examination (2008-2009) can also apply.

Age Limit:

The upper age limit for admission to the eligibility test is 28 years as on 30-09-2009 (relaxable up to 5 years in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/PH/ female candidates and 3 years in the case of OBC.

Information bulletin containing the application form and other details will be available at PGIMER Website http:// pgimer.nic.in and ICMR New Delhi Website : icmr.nic.in . The candidates may apply in the downloaded form together with requisite fee by demand draft in the name of DIRECTOR, PGIMER, Chandigarh. The prescribed application from along with Information Brochure will also be available on cash payment (Not by Cheque or money order) from the office of Registrar, Academic Section,PGIMER,Chandigarh-160012 at the counter & ICMR, New Delhi from 30.03.2009 on payment of Rs. 500/- for General & OBC and Rs. 300/- for SC/ST/PH from 10.30AM to 12.30PM and from 2.30PM to 3.30 PM on all working days except Saturdays (On Saturday forms will be available at PGIMER, Chandigarh only from 10.30 AM to 12.30 PM) or by post for which request (inscribed on the envelope “Application form ICMR-JRF Exam -2009 must be accompanied with a self addressed thick envelope of size 8” x10” bearing Postage stamp of Rs. 30/- and requisite Bank draft. The Bank draft should be preferably from any SBI Branch payable at SBI Medical Institute Branch (Code No. 1524), Chandigarh (for General & OBC Rs. 500/- and Rs. 300/- for SC/ST/PH) drawn in favour of “DIRECTOR,PGIMER, Chandigarh”)

Candidates are advised to preserve photocopy of the Bank draft for further reference. SC/ST/OBC/PH candidates should submit a copy of the certificate from the competent authority in English or Hindi along with bank draft. All disputes relating to the conduct of the examination or any matter connected with this advertisement shall be dealt in the jurisdiction of Delhi Court.

NOTE: No request for supply of form by post will be entertained after 22.04.2009

Incomplete form without entrance fee will not be entertained. Forms received after April 13, 2009 will be rejected without any correspondence.

Reservation : As per University rules (SC-16%; ST-12%; OBC-21%)

Test will be held in Jaipur on May 27, 2009 between 9.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m.

The Admission test paper shall be of multiple choice questions. The questions shall comprise test of language ability (50 marks), legal reasoning (30 marks), aptitude of learning (30 marks), general knowledge (30 marks), general science (30 marks) and social studies (30 marks).

Result will be declared on June 7, 2009 on University Website

Notification of Vacant Seats – June 22, 2009

The admissions would be on the basis of this Entrance Test (200 marks) and a personal interview (60 marks) and Group Discussion (40 marks) of successful candidates of the written test.

The particulars of the draft must be filled in the body of the form as well as in both parts of the separate sheet attached along with the form. The candidates should write their full name, address and application number on the reverse side of the demand draft.

The MBA Programme at DCMS in the University Campus is under Choice Based Credit Semester System (CCSS) Applications are also invited for the Part-time MBA (Evening programme - Self Financed), 30 seats each at Calicut, Palakkad and Trichur.

Eligibility:

A bachelor degree in any subject of the University of Calicut or that of any other University recognized by the University of Calicut with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate (including languages). (OBC and SC/ST students are allowed relaxation as per rules ie. 5% relaxation for OBC and other eligible communities and a mere pass for SC/ST). Candidates awaiting their degree results may also apply. But they should produce their original degree mark lists before the last date for the registration of their first semester MBA examinations. However, original Plus Two/PDC mark list should be produced for verification at the time of Personal Interview and Group Discussion.

Selection:

Selection is based on Plus Two/Pre-degree marks and the scores obtained by the candidates in the entrance test (to be held during May 2009 at Calicut, Trichur, Ernakulam, Trivandrum and Kannur) Group discussion and Personal Interview. The University may cancel any of these entrance test centres if enough candidates do not opt for that centre for the test.

How to Apply:

The application can be had from the Head, Department of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Calicut, Malappuram 673 635 or from the Schools of Management Studies mentioned above on paying a fee of Rs.500/- (Rs. 167/- for SC/ST) . For applications by post, please write to the Head of the Department along with a self addressed, Rs.15 stamped envelope (26cmx 15cm) with a crossed demand draft for Rs.500/- (Rs. 167/- for SC/ST students if community certificate is submitted), drawn in favour of ‘The Finance Officer, University of Calicut payable at State Bank of Travancore, Calicut University Branch / chalan for Rs. 500/- (Rs.167/- for SC/ST), remitted to the Calicut University Fund at the University cash counter at the Pareeksha Bhavan. The application form can be downloaded from the University website (www.universityofcalicut.info). If the form is downloaded from the site, DD / Chalan for the fee stated above should accompany such filled up applications.

The last date for issue of application and receipt of filled up applications at the Department of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Calicut is April 30, 2009.

Note: If sufficient candidates are not available for the course at any of the Part-Time Centres, the course will not be conducted at that centre.

Modular Course In Bioinformatics
Admission to first Module Course on Bioinformatics and Information Technology (Full time/ Part time)

Applications are invited for admission to the first Module Course on Bioinformatics and Information Technology (Full time/ Part time) under Centre for Excellence in Bioinformatics supported by the Ministry of Information Technology (Govt. of India) starting from May/June 2009. The course has high practical/lab component and is designed to cater to the needs of industry and educational institutes.

Eligibility : B.Sc. (Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics/Statistics/Agri/Biology or Equivalent), B.Tech., M.B.B.S, B.Pharm, B.D.S., B.V.Sc. or Equivalent (at least 50% marks or equivalent grade).

Duration : Three months per module.

Total Intake: 30 seats (reservation as per University Rules)

On successful completion of the module a Certificate will be awarded. Candidates who successfully complete all the four modules under this programme will be awarded Post Graduate Diploma in Bioinformatics.

Fees : Rs. 5000/- per module; Five seats reserved for Sponsored/candidates from industry with a fee of Rs.10,000/- per module.

Admission to 5-Year Integrated Masters (M.S.) Programme

Applications are invited for admission to the 5-Year Integrated Masters (M.S.) Programme at IISERs for the academic session 2009-10. Applications are to be submitted online as per the instructions provided on this website. Apply Online between March 6 and April 3, 2009 (for KVPY sream) or between May 30 and June 19, 2009 (for IIT JEE stream). by clicking link given above.

Eligibility Criteria

1. Passed 10 + 2 or its equivalent examination: passed in 2008 or appearing in 2009 and
2. have also qualified in one of the following examinations:

• Kishore Vaigyanic Protsahan Yojna (KVPY) SX (2009), SA (2007) and SP streams.


• IIT JEE-2009 merit list or extended merit list.

Availability of Seats and Reservations

Each IISER will be admitting about 100 candidates. The percentage of seats reserved for different categories as per the Government of India norms are:

• 15% for Scheduled Class (SC) category.


• 7.5% for Scheduled Tribes (ST ) category.


• Up to 27% for eligible Other Backward Classes (OBC) category (non-creamy layer)


• Remaining seats are available for General category


• Up to 3% for Physically Disabled (PD) candidates in all the four categories (General, OBC, SC and ST)

Counseling

Counseling for the admission will be held on May 6, 2009 for KVPY stream applicants and on July 2, 2009 for IIT JEE 2009 applicants simultaneously and concurrently at all IISERs. A non-refundable counseling fee of Rs. 1000 will be charged at the time of counseling. This amount will be adjusted against the tuition fee for selected candidates at the time of admission.

Admission

The list of the selected candidates will be announced after counseling is completed at all IISERs. Selected candidates should deposit full admission fees within 15 days of issue of the offer letter, failing which the offer will be withdrawn.
