The Army Institute of Law (AIL) was established in Jul 1999 under the aegis of Army Welfare Education Society (AWES). AIL was inaugurated by Lt. Gen. H B Kala, PVSM, AVSM, SC, the then GOC-in-C HQ Western Command on 15 Jul 1999. It shifted to its permanent location at Sector-68, Mohali on 21 Jul 2003. AIL Mohali has been inaugurated by HE Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, President of India on 01 Dec 2003. The Institute is running 5-year degree course in law after 10+2, primarily for the wards of serving and ex-servicemen of Army. However 20 percent seats are available for the civilians also. Out of this 15 percent are reserved for Punjab Residents and 5 percent for All India Civil Category.

The University Institute of Legal Studies was established as a separate department under the aegis and within the campus of Panjab University in 2004. The Institute was inaugurated by Justice B.K. Roy, the then Chief Justice of Panjab and Haryana High Court on 6th July, 2004. The department is housed in the ground floor of its newly constructed building, which when complete will have four storeys and covered area of 64,000 sq. feet. The first phase of the building was inaugurated by the Chief Justice of India Hon'ble Mr. Justice Y.K. Sabharwal on 4th Feb., 2006. The Institute offers B.A. LL.B (Hons.) 5 years Integrated Course. The Institute has one hundred and ten seats which are subject to reservation as per the University rules. In addition to 110 seats, there are 10 seats for NRI students.

Admission

The Institute is offering B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) Five years Integrated Course. The Institute has hundred seats and in addition to these seats there are ten seats for NRI students. The hundred seats are subject to reservation as per University rules.

The admission to UILS is based on combined Entrance Test conducted around 15th May by the University. The result of the entrance test is declared within one week of the entrance test. Final merit list is prepared after adding up marks of class-XII and marks of entrance examination e.g. If a student has secured 70% marks in Class-XII and 76/100 in entrance examination, then she/he will have 146/200 in the merit list. Admission Procedure :-

LL.M..(by Papers)

The minimum qualification for making an application for admission to the LL.M. degree course is a Second Class LL.B. degree obtained at the one and same sitting of this University or a degree recognized as equivalent thereto for general category. However candidate belonging to reserved category they make an application to the LL.M. Degree course with a Pass Class.

An application for admission to the LL.M. degree course must be made in the prescribed form and be submitted to the Department of Law within the prescribed time, immediately after the declaration of the results ofthe LL.B. degree examination of this University held in first half of every year.

Admission forms for the LL.M. degree course shall be referred to the Committee comprising of Head of University Department of Law and the recognized Post-graduate teachers of the University.


Ph.D. in Law :-

Ph.D. in Law- Minimum 2 Years after LL.M. 3 Years after LL.B.

Ph.D. admission will generally be restricted to the students who have obtained the LL.M. degree of this University or of any other University recognised by this University as equivalent thereto with minimum of fifty-five percent marks. and fifty percent marks in the case of Reserve Category. A student who has obtained the LL.B. degree may be admitted to the Ph.D. degree if - he has to clear an aptitude test conducted by the concerned Department of the University.

A candidate for Ph.D. Degree must have worked for a minimum period of two years (24 months) from the date of registration. A student with LL.B. degree is required to work for a minimum period of three academic or calendar years. For the Ph.D. Student is required to be in residence in Mumbai for the full period during which he is keeping terms and to meet his guiding teacher from time to time.

Admission Procedure

A candidate for admission should have passed, with at least 50% marks in aggregate with English as a compulsory subject in any of the following examinations:-


  • Senior School Certificate Examination (Class XII) of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Delhi.

  • An examination recognized as equivalent to the Senior School Certificate Examination of the CBSE.


He/she should be below 21 years of age on 1 st August
The subjects for the CET are :

  • English Language and Comprehension (25 %)

  • General Knowledge (25 %)

  • Reasoning (25 %)

  • Legal Aptitude (25 %)

Other relevant information for the students

  • The duration of the course shall be five academic years.

  • The academic terms shall be announced in advance each year and shall ordinarily be between August-December and January-May and at the end of each semester there will be the End-of-Semester Examination conducted by the University.

The Government Law College, also known as GLC and located in Mumbai, India, is one of the oldest and most distinguished law schools in India.

Courses

Five Year Course

The Five Years Integrated Law Course leading to a B.L.S., LL.B. Degree is a ten-semester full time course. The first and the second year of this course i.e. first four semesters constitute a 'Pre - Law' course. The students pursing this course are entitled to B.L.S. (Bachelor of Legal Science) Degree on successful completion of the third year (6th semester) and on successful completion of five years (10th semester) the LL.B. Degree is awarded. There is an examination held by the University of Mumbai at the end of each semester. The LL.B. Degree is will not be conferred unless the candidate has passed in/or cleared all the papers prescribed for each semester in accordance with the provisions relating the semester examination. Performance of each of the student shall be evaluated by the examination conducted at the end of each semester and also the performance in the Practical Training Subjects as per the guidelines issued from time to time by the Bar Council of India.

Three Year Course

The Three Years Law Course leading to the LL.B. Degree is a six-semester full time course. Students who do not wish to practise as Advocates, are eligible for the LL.B. (General) Degree, at the successful completion of the second year (4th semester). On successful completion of three years (6th semester) the LL.B. Degree is awarded. There is an examination held by the University of Mumbai at the end of each semester. The LL.B. Degree is will not be conferred unless the candidate has passed in/or cleared all the papers prescribed for each semester in accordance with the provisions relating the semester examination. L.L.M

The University of Mumbai conducts the course for the LL.M. Degree. The LL. M. degree of the University of Mumbai enables students to develop their interests in many of the major areas of law to which they have been introduced in the LL. B. and also provides opportunities for the study of important specialized areas. The duration of course is two years. A student is permitted to take any two groups out of the eleven groups mentioned below and each paper in the group shall carry 100 marks.

National Law University, Jodhpur (Mandore) is an institute in India which provides Legal Education.It was set up in November 1999 (National Law University Act,1999) under the leadership of Dr. N.L. Mitra. By the statute (National Law University Act,1999), the ex-officio Chancellor of this University is The Chief Justice of Rajasthan High Court. Based in Jodhpur (Judicial capital of Rajasthan), it provides a unique atmosphere for learning and research.The institute offers undergraduate and post-graduate courses in various facades of law.

Admission to Undergraduate Programme:

Admission to Undergraduate Programme would be through Common Law Admission Test (CLAT).

Admission to Postgraduate Programme:

Eligibility:

Three years bachelor's degree or equivalent in any discipline recognized by UGC/the state/central government university with 55% marks in the aggregate.

Selection Procedure:

Selection of students for admission to all post graduate courses will be on the basis of merit demonstrated in the result of National Entrance Test (NET) conducted by the University.

PG entrance test paper shall comprise of (a) linguistic ability; (b) analytical skills; (c) depth of knowledge in the subject.
