Admission to the PhD Programs

Applications are invited for the session commencing from January 2008 for admission to the Doctor Philosophy (PhD) programs in the following Departments:

(a) Engineering: Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Material Science and Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering;

(b) Sciences: Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics; and

(c) Humanities & Social Sciences (HSS): Languages, Psychology, Economics, and Management.

Minimum Qualifications

(a) Engineering: M.Tech./M.E./M.Sc.(Engineering) degree with first class or equivalent in the respective or allied areas. Candidates with BachelorÕs degree in Engineering/Technology or MasterÕs degree in Sciences in an allied area with exceptional academic record and possessing a valid GATE score may also apply.

(b) Sciences & HSS: M.Sc./M.A. degree with first class or equivalent in respective or allied areas with a valid GATE/UGC Net/CSIR JRF/NBHM score.

General Information

Financial support (Assistantship/Scholarship) will be provided to all students, who are Indian citizens, enrolled in the Ph.D. program and who do not receive any other form of financial assistance. Sponsored candidates from Government of India R&D Laboratories shall also be considered for Ph.D. Programs; sponsored candidates do not require GATE qualification and will not be paid any scholarship.

Reservation

Reservations will be 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST and 27% for OBC. Also, up to 3% reservation shall apply as per Government of India rules for persons with disability (PD) in each category.

Applications on the prescribed form are invited for admission to 39th batch of Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme for the academic session 2009-10.

Eligibility:

Graduate in Science, Engineering/Technology, Agriculture, Agricultural Engineering, Veterinary Science, Home Science, Commerce, Business Administration / Management, Computer Application with at least 60% marks or OCPA of 6.00 (out of 10.00). 5% marks are reduced for candidates belonging to reserved categories. The candidates who have appeared in the qualifying examination may also apply for admission. However, their selection will be subject to the condition that they fulfil the prescribed qualifications.

Selection Procedure:

The candidates (except NRIs educated and residing abroad) have to appear in Common Admission Test (CAT) to be held by Indian Institute of Management on November 16, 2008 at various test centres in India. Our Institute uses CAT score for short-listing the candidates for our 2-year full time postgraduate programme in Management. IIMs have no rule either in selection process or in the conduct of the programme. The group discussion and Interview of the candidates who qualify the entrance test with minimum of 40 percentile (total), in CAT will be held from 2.3.2009 onwards at PAU Ludhiana.

Application form and Information Brochure can be obtained from the Additional Director of Communication, Centre for Communication & International Linkage, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana from 05.09.2008 either by sending crossed Bank Draft for Rs. 775/- drawn in the favour of Comptroller, PAU and payable at any schedule Bank at Ludhiana or personally on payment of Rs. 725/-in cash at the counter on all working days. Eligibility:

1.Valid GATE score card (If the student is qualified in GATE)

2.The sponsored candidates must submit the Letter of Sponsorship and No Objection Certificate from the Head / Authorized person of his parent organization at the time of interviews. It should be mentioned clearly in the letter that the fees for the course will be born by the sponsoring organization and the required full time leave will be sanctioned to the candidate.

3.The applicants should enclose the attested copies of the certificates and mark sheets of examinations (S.S.C. onwards) passed by them along with the application form. Candidates belonging to reservation categories will be required to submit a certificate from an authorised officer not below the rank of Magistrate / Tahasildar to the effect that the candidate belongs to the respective reserved category. In case the certificates / mark sheets are in a language other than English, Hindi or Marathi the English version of such documents duly attested should be enclosed. All candidates selected for admission must produce the necessary original certificates and documents for verification at the time of admission. Students who have passed their qualifying examinations from Universities outside India are required to follow the rules and procedures laid down by the International Students Centre of the University of Pune.

Admission Rules:

[A]50 % of the total intake will be on the basis of

• performance in the entrance examination,

1. The selection of the student will be either through [A] or [B]. The students can opt for either [A] or [B] but not for both [A] and [B] simultaneously.

2. Two seats are reserved for the candidates sponsored by industries / academic institution involved in research, development, training, auditing or production in the areas relevant to Conventional and Non-conventional energy sources. The sponsored candidates need not appear for the entrance examinations. The admissions for sponsored candidates will be on the basis of personal interviews and their academic merits. The candidates admitted under sponsored category need to satisfy the following criteria:

a) The sponsored candidate should be permanent employee of industry or academic institute for at least two years.

b) The sponsored candidates must submit the Letter of Sponsorship and No Objection Certificate from the Head / Authorized person of his parent organization at the time of interviews. It should be mentioned clearly in the letter that the fees for the course will be born by the sponsoring organization and the required full time leave will be sanctioned to the candidate.

Applications are invited for admission to 5 Year (10 Sem.) B. Arch. Degree Programme offered at University Department of Anna University Chennai, Government Aided Institutions (Self-Supporting Programme) and the seats surrendered by the Self Financing Engineering Colleges for the academic year 2008 - 2009.

Application Forms:

IN PERSON: Application forms can be had in person from 04.07.2008 at the Examination Centre, Anna University Chennai, Chennai - 600 025 on payment of cash / Demand Draft for Rs.500/- for General category and Rs.250/- for SC/ST candidates belonging to Tamil Nadu on production of xerox copy of Permanent Community Certificate.

By Post:

Application forms can be obtained by post by sending a Demand Draft for Rs.650/- for General Category and Rs.400/- for SC/ST candidates belonging to Tamil Nadu and an address label written in capital letters to which the application is to be mailed and also enclose xerox copy of Permanent Community Certificate.

Candidates seeking admission under Special reservation category should enclose separate special reservation application along with main application together with DD for Rs.100/- for each special reservation with relevant documents. The applications under Sports Quota should be submitted along with all documents only in person.

Eligibility:

(i) (a) HSC (Academic)/Equivalent

The Candidates who have passed 10+2 or its equivalent examination with Mathematics as one of the subjects.
(1) OC and BC candidates should have secured not less than 50% marks in aggregate.
(2) MBC candidates should have secured not less than 45% marks in aggregate.
(3) For SC/ST candidates belonging to Tamil Nadu a mere pass is sufficient.

(b) Diploma

10+3 Diploma (any stream) recognized by Central / State Governments.
(1) OC and BC candidates should have secured not less than 50% marks in aggregate in all the semesters put together.
(2) MBC candidates should have secured not less than 45% marks in aggregate in all the semesters put together.
(3) For SC/ST candidates belonging to Tamil Nadu a mere pass is sufficient in all the semesters.

(c) International Baccalaureate Diploma

A minimum average of 50% in International Baccalaureate Diploma after 10 years of schooling, with Mathematics as compulsory subject.
(1) OC and BC candidates should have secured not less than 50% marks in aggregate in all the semesters put together.
(2) MBC candidates should have secured not less than 45% marks in aggregate in all the semesters put together.
(3) For SC/ST candidates belonging to Tamil Nadu a mere pass is sufficient in all the semesters.

(ii) Aptitude Test

The candidates should have passed (pass mark is 80 out of 200) the National Aptitude Test in Architecture 2008 conducted by the Council of Architecture, New Delhi.

Candidates have to send the filled up application along with the Xerox copies of Mark Sheet(s) and copies of all other relevant certificates, to The Secretary, TNEA 2008, Anna University Chennai, Chennai - 600 025 on or before 11.07.2008 (5.30 p.m.).
