UGC National Eligibility Test for Junior Research Fellowship and Eligibility for Lectureship - December, 2008

The University Grants Commission announces holding of the National Eligibility Test (NET) on 28th December, 2008 (Sunday) for determining the eligibility of Indian nationals for the Award of Junior Research Fellowships (JRF) and eligibility for Lectureship in Indian universities and colleges. UGC will conduct NET in 77 (seventy seven) subjects (listed under item no. 9) at 66 (sixty six) selected University Centres (listed under Item no. 10) spread across the country. The result of the UGC-NET held on 29th June, 2008 and the one to be held on 28th December, 2008 will be made available on the UGC website : www.ugc.ac.in and shall also be published in the Employment News as and when it is declared. The candidates will not be individually intimated about their result.

The candidates who qualify for the award of Junior Research Fellowship are eligible to pursue research in the subject of their post-graduation or in a related subject and are also eligible for Lectureship. The universities, institutions, IITs and other national organizations may select the JRF awardees for whole time research work inaccordance with the procedure prescribed by them. The award of JRF will depend on the performance of the candidate in NET. However, the candidates qualifying exclusively for Lectureship will not be considered for award of JRF. Candidates appearing in NET should clearly specify in the prescribed Application Form whether they are applying for both JRF & eligibility for Lectureship OR only for eligibility for Lectureship. Candidates who qualify the Test for eligibility for Lectureship will begoverned by the rules and regulations for recruitment of Lecturers of the concerned universities/colleges/state governments, as the case may be.

Scheduled Caste (SC)/Scheduled Tribe (ST)/Visually Handicapped (VH)/Physically Handicapped (PH) candidates will be given such special concessions as may be
decided by the Commission.

Last date for receipt of duly completed Application Forms at the respective Test Centres is 07-11-2008.

The Entrance Tests for admission to First Year of LL.B. (Three Year Course) and LL.M. for the year 2008-09 will be held in Delhi.

LL.B.:
Date of Entrance Test: Sunday, 15th June 2008

Eligibility: Graduate/Post-Graduate Degree with 50% marks for General candidates; Relaxation of upto 5% marks for Physically Handicapped (PH); 45% marks for widows/wards of ex-servicemen/serving personnel (CW) category; and degree with pass marks for SC/ST candidates

LL.M.:
Date of Entrance Test: Sunday, 22nd June 2008

Eligibility: LL.B. Degree (3 year/5 year course) with 50% marks for General candidates; Relaxation of upto 5% marks for PH; and 45% marks for SC/ST/CW

Note:

1. Candidates awaiting results of the qualifying degree examination are eligible to appear in the Entrance Test but admission will depend on minimum eligibility prescribed above.

Bulletin of Information with application form may be obtained from the office of the Admission Committee, Faculty of Law from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. from 21.04.2008 on cash payment of Rs. 200/- or by post by sending latest by 19.05.2008 to the Admission Committee a bank draft of Rs. 250/- favouring “Registrar, University of Delhi, Delhi-110007” payable at Delhi/New Delhi. Selection Criteria : On the basis of a proposal presentation, personal interview and academic merits.
Duration : Three years to a maximum of seven years

Government of India Fellowships of Rs.10,000/- per month for 1st and 2nd years and Rs.12,000/- per month for 3rd year respectively available for the Indian students who have qualified NET for lectureship only in population or its inter-disciplinary subjects conducted by the UGC. Such Ph.D. fellowship also carries a contingency grant of Rs. 10,000/- per year for the first two years and Rs. 20,500/- for the third year. However the candidates, without NET qualification shall be given fellowship of Rs.6,250/- per month for the 1st and 2nd years, and Rs.7,000/- per month for the 3rd year, with an annual contingency grant of Rs. 10,000/-. Number of seats will be as per the availability of fellowships at the time of admission.

Reservation for SC/ST candidates will be considered as per the UGC norms.
