Admission MBA Programme (2009-2011)

Applications are invited for admission to MBA Programme (2009-2011)

Army Institute of Management, Kolkata (AIMK) was established in July 1997 by the Army Welfare Education Society (AWES), New Delhi. Business India has ranked AIMK as ‘A’ Category B-School in India in 2007.

Eligibility: Bachelor’s Degree with 50% Marks in aggregate in any discipline recognized by the Association of Indian Universities. Candidates completing all requirements for obtaining the Bachelor’s Degree by June 2009 may also apply.

Intake: Present batch size is 120 (80% seats for Army wards and 20% seats for General category)

Selection: Applicant shall have to appear in Common Admission Test (CAT) to be conducted by IIMs on November 16, 2008. Candidates short-listed on the basis of CAT score will be called for Group Discussion and Personal Interview at AIM Kolkata for final selection.

(AIMK uses CAT score for shortlisting the candidates for two-year full time Post-graduate Programme in Management. IIMs have no role either in the selection process or in the conduct of the programme.)

Placement: Full placement achieved in last three years. Highest salary offered Rs 6.51 lacs p.a. and average Rs 4.28 lacs p.a. in 2008.

Application: For CAT Bulletin with application form, candidates are requested to consult the advertisement for CAT – 2008 issued by IIMs on 13 July 2008. Director, Institute of Microbial Technology, invites exceptionally motivated candidates who have passed M.Sc and cleared CSIR-UGC (NET), DBT-JRF examination, or ICMR-JRF examination (NOT THE NET LECTURERSHIP OR ICMR PROJECT) to appear for a walk-in interview on July 28, 2008, (Reporting Time 9.00 a.m. to 12 noon; kindly confirm your presence by e-mail) for pursuing doctoral research at IMTECH under the aegis of the Ph.D degree program being jointly run by IMTECH and the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi. IMTECH is a multidisciplinary institute with excellent research facilities, state of the art computer and library facilities, and faculty with interests in many different areas of modern biology and biotechnology. During this intake, openings may be available in the subjects illustratively mentioned below. Further details will be available to those appearing for the walk-in interview(s), which will be conducted, for each candidate, subject to the fulfillment of the required essential qualifications. Candidates may be required to identify their preferred areas/sub-areas for research, before being interviewed (see below).

Molecular Biology: Molecular biology of pathogens, gene silencing, stress tolerance, signal transduction, gene expression, genome-wide analysis. Cell Biology & Immunology: Host- pathogen interactions, TB vaccine development, T- and B-cell activation, infectious agents & vaccine targets, cell structure & microscopy. Protein Science & Engineering: Structure-function relationships, design, expression, structural analysis and modeling, crystallization, structure determination and structure- based drug designing Applied & Environmental Microbiology: Microbial diversity, environmental biotechnology, biotransformations, vaccines, extremophiles and their metabolites. Bioinformatics: Computer-aided vaccine and drug development, genome annotations, protein structure prediction, molecular simulations. Bioorganic Chemistry: Enzymes and abzymes in organic synthesis, biocatalysis and bioactive molecules. Peptide Chemistry: Peptide synthesis, conformational characterization and modelling. Biochemical Engineering: Fermentation & downstream processing, process development, bioreactor modelling and control. Biosensors: Immunodiagnostics of pesticides and other environmental pollutants based on bioprobe-electronic interfacing.

Eligibility and Selection:

Candidates with Master's Degree or equivalent in any branch of science (Physics, Chemistry, Life Sciences, Microbiology, Botany, Zoology, Physiology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Biotechnology, Pharmacy) or in chemical/biochemical engineering who have qualified to be eligible to receive a doctoral junior research fellowship (JRF) after passing any of the following examinations are eligible to be interviewed: CSIR-UGC (NET), DBT-JRF examination, or ICMR-JRF examination. Those who come for interview must be prepared to be present in Chandigarh for three days, which is the approximate time required to finalize the admission of successful candidates. Only those candidates will be allowed to appear in the interview who produce a valid proof of having passed the qualifying masters’ level examination (e.g., may be a letter from the relevant Head of Department). Candidates must also state their present occupation, if any, before the interview; any concealment may result in cancellation of admission at any stage. Age limit: 28 years (age relaxation is applicable to SC/ST/OBC candidates as per Govt. of India rules). No TA/DA or any other expenses will be paid for appearing in the interview. The decision of the Director, IMTECH, regarding selection/admission of the candidates shall be final.

Residential Accommodation:

Separate hostel accommodation for boys and girls in the campus may be provided to the admitted candidates, if available. However, availability this year is likely to be low, and selected candidates may be required to stay off-campus.

Eligibility Condition for Admission :

Full Time (One year) :

A Master’s degree in the concerned subject of the University of Madras or any other University recognized by the Syndicate as equivalent thereto, provided that those who have qualified for the Master’s degree prior to 1st January 1991 must have secured a minimum of 50 percent of marks and those who have qualified for the master’s degree on or after 1st January 1991 must have secured a minimum of 55 percent of marks. For SC/ST, Physically Handicapped & Visually Challenged candidates who have qualified on or after 1st January 1991 a concession of 5 percent of marks shall be given in the minimum eligibility marks.

Part Time (Two years) :

(i) Teachers working in the University departments / (ii) teachers working in Affiliated colleges whosequalifications are approved by the University / (iii) Non-teacher candidates are eligible to do M.Phil Parttime degree course/(iv) teachers of Polytechnics approved by the Director of the Technical Education or teachers of Higher secondary and High schools approved either by State Board or Central Board of Secondary Education or Educational Instructors of IAF (within the Madras University area) are eligible for Part time M.Phil for admission, provided if they have secured 55% of marks in their Master’s degree obtained on or after 1.1.91 and no minimum marks is prescribed in their Master’s degree obtained prior to 1.1.91. For SC/ST, Physically Handicapped & Visually Challenged candidates who have qualified on or after 1st January 1991 a concession of 5 percent of marks shall be given in the minimum eligibility marks.

Conditions for Selection

1. There will be an entrance examination for admission to Full time M.Phil. course conducted by the respective colleges. There will be no entrance examination for Part Time M.Phil. Degree Selection.
2. The Entrance Test will be held after the publication of P.G. Results and the candidates should have to take the examination only in the subject for which he/she has applied for admission and not in the qualifying subject.
3. The Entrance Test will be for 50 marks. The remaining 50 marks is for the qualifying examination in the subject concerned.
