(A Non-Residential Programme)

Birla Institute of Technology will offer a one-year (two semester) programme – Postgraduate Diploma in Language Technology (DLT) – under the aegis of the Dept. of Communication and Information Technology, Government of India. The academic activities for the first batch of students will commence from 26 September 2008 with an intake of 30 students. The programme has been designed to train students in the field of Language Technology, and will empower them to use local languages for software development. Classes will be held in the evenings from 6 pm to 9 pm at Birla Institute of Technology Extension Centre, Lalpur, Ranchi. No Hostel facilities will be provided

Course Fee

The course fee of Rs. 15,000/- is to be paid in two instalments i.e. Rs. 9,750 /- (including Rs. 4,500 /- as Admission fees) to be paid at the beginning of the first semester and Rs. 5,250/- to be paid at the beginning of the second semester.

Number of Seats and Reservations

The total number of seats is 30 and the reservation of seats is as given below:
SC – 5 seats, ST – 5 seats, PH – 1 seat, General – 19 seats

Eligibility Criteria for DTL

a) Candidates must have passed in ALL subjects in which they have appeared in Class 10 (excluding optional subjects) with minimum 50% (45% for SC/ST) marks in average. Marks in Class 10 to be computed as average of marks obtained in ALL subjects in which candidate has appeared (excluding optional subjects)
b) Candidates must have passed in ALL subjects in which they have appeared in Class 12 (excluding optional subjects) with minimum 50% (45% for SC/ST) marks in average. Marks in Class 12 to be computed as average of best 5 subjects in which candidate has appeared, (excluding optional subjects) but including required subjects
c) Candidates must hold a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India/AIU. This degree must entail a minimum of three years of education (10+2+3 system) after completing higher secondary schooling (Class 12 or equivalent)
d) Candidates of B.Sc. / B.A. / B. Com. Honours must have minimum 50% (45% for SC/ST) marks in average in their Honours subject. Candidates of other graduate courses must have minimum 50% (45% for SC/ST) marks in average in graduation, marks to be computed as average of marks obtained in ALL subjects in which candidate has appeared (excluding optional subjects)

How to Apply

The prescribed form and information leaflet will be available from BIT Extension Centre Lalpur from 4 September 2008 to 16 September 2008, on payment of Rs. 300/- by crossed Bank Draft only, in favour of Birla Institute of Technology, payable at Ranchi. The completed form must be deposited latest by 4 pm on 16 September 2008 at the office of the Director, BIT Extension Centre Lalpur, Ranchi, 834001.

To apply for the programme, eligible candidates may either

(a) Fill in the printed form, procured from Lalpur Centre, and submit the completed form with all enclosures (2 photographs, photocopies of all certificates), at BIT Lalpur, Ranchi, 834001, by above date, OR,
(b) Download, print and fill the application form on our website, and submit with crossed Demand Draft for Rs. 300/- as above and all enclosures (2 photographs, photocopies of all certificates), by the same date at the same address.

Selection Procedure

Admission to the programme will be on the basis of previous academic record and personal interviews. Candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of their previous academic record. The list of shortlisted candidates will be announced on 17 September 2008 only on our website: http://www.bitmesra.ac.in and the Notice Boards of the Institute at Mesra and BIT Extension Centre Lalpur, Ranchi. No separate intimations will be sent to candidates. Interviews will be conducted at BIT Extension Centre Lalpur, Ranchi on 21 September 2008. All candidates selected for interviews must carry with them originals of all required certificates and documents for verification.

List of Attachments required with submitted form

1. Two recent passport sized photographs
2. Photocopy of mark sheet of class 10/matriculation
3. Photocopy of mark sheet of class 12/I.Sc
4. Photocopy of mark sheet of Graduation
5. Photocopy of mark sheet of Post Graduation/Any other (if any)
6. Photocopy of caste certificate (if any)

Availability of Form from: 04 September 2008
Last date to obtain form: 16 September 2008
Completed forms to be submitted by 4 pm on 16 September 2008
List of eligible and shortlisted candidates for interviews: 17 September 2008
Interviews at BIT Extension Centre Lalpur, Ranchi: 21 September 2008
Classes will start on: 26 September 2008
