National Institute of Technology, Warangal (NITW), formerly known as Regional Engineering College Warangal (RECW), was established in 1959. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru laid the foundation stone for this institute on October 10, 1959, the first in the chain of eighteen NITs in the country. The Institute renamed as National Institute of Technology, Warangal and offered the status of Deemed University on September, 2002.

The National Institute of Technology at Tiruchirappalli, formerly known as Regional Engineering College (REC) Tiruchirapalli, is situated in the heart of Tamil Nadu on the banks of the river Cauvery. It was started as a joint and co-operative venture between the Government of India and Government of Tamil Nadu in 1964 with a view to catering to the needs of man-power in technology for the country.
The institution offers Under Graduate Courses in ten branches and Post Graduate Courses in twenty one disciplines of Science, Engineering & Technology besides Ph.D. in all the departments. The faculty is inducted through a process of open advertisement throughout the country. NIT-Tiruchirapalli is also know as NIT-Trichy or NIT- Tiruchy.

Sardar Vallabbhai National Institute of Technology, Surat (SVNIT Surat) was established in the year 1961 as one of the 17 Regional Engineering Technology colleges (RECs) of the country. A joint venture between the Central Government and the government of Gujarat. It was established with facilities to run Bachelor's Degree Programmes in Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering disciplines. It is now changed to National Institute of Technology along with other RECs. SVNIT, Surat is located in the outskirts of Surat city in an area known as Ichchhanath, at a distance of about 10 kms from the Surat Railway Station.
