Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) invites Applications from Indian nationals for research program scheduled to commence from August 2008 in the following areas of basic sciences: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology.

Minimum Eligibility Criteria :

First Class or 60% marks (55% for SC / ST) in M.Sc. in Chemistry / Physics / Biochemistry / Material Science/ Life Sciences /Mathematics / Statistics / Computer Science or M. Stat or equivalent. Students with B. Tech. or equivalent degree in Engineering Physics / Electrical Engineering / Mechanical Engineering /B.Pharma / M.Pharma / MBBS degree may also apply for research programs in Physics and Life Sciences.

Other criteria :

The applicants should have qualified through NET / GATE / JEST or equivalent examination and the selected students with valid score are eligible for fellowship from IISER Pune. Students with valid UGC-CSIR JRF are eligible for fellowship directly from UGC or CSIR. Candidates must attend the interview before selection for doctoral program, the dates of which would be informed to the short-listed candidates. Candidates who have appeared for qualifying degree examination are eligible to apply, and must submit the attested qualifying degree certificates / final transcripts before joining (Deadline: 30th September, 2008). Age: Not more than 28 years as on 1st August 2008 (Born on / after 01.08.1980). Age will be relaxed by 5 years for SC / ST candidates.

Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research, Chandigarh, has invited applications from eligible candidates for the B.Sc. Nursing, B.Sc. Nursing (Post-Basic) and M.Sc. Nursing courses for the session starting July 16, 2008.

Eligibility :

B.Sc. Nursing (4 years): (Only for female candidates)

Applicant should have passed the 10+2 examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English or any other examination recognized by the Panjab University as equivalent thereto with at least 50% marks in aggregate. Candidates awaiting the results of these qualifying examinations can also apply, but they will be issued Roll numbers only if they furnish the certificates of their having passed the examination, 15 days by Post and 5 days by hand, before the date of entrance test. The minimum age is 17 years and maximum 25 years, as on 31st December of the year of admission.

B.Sc. Nursing (Post-Basic) :

Applicant must have passed 10+2 or any other examination recognized by the Panjab University as equivalent thereto. Applicant should be Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife qualified from a recognized Institute and registered with respective State Nursing Council as approved by I.N.C. or substitute registration in case of male candidates fully qualified for nursing of men, women and children. In case, the candidate is in service, the application should be routed through the employer.

M.Sc. Nursing :

B.Sc. Nursing/B.Sc (Hons) Nursing/B.Sc. Nursing (Post-Basic) or any other Degree from the institute recognized by the Indian Nursing Council and the Panjab University as equivalent thereto with at least 55% marks in aggregate. Applicant should have at least 1 year of work experience by 15th July of the year in Bedside Nursing or Public Health Nursing in Nursing educational institutions recognized by the Indian Nursing Council after Basic B.Sc. Nursing or before and after Post-Basic B.Sc. Nursing and should be a Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife as approved by I.N.C. or substitute registration in the case of male candidates fully qualified for nursing of men, women and children. In case, the candidate is in service, the application should be routed through the employer.

National Institute of Technology Calicut (NIT - Calicut) invites applications for its Finishing School for Engineering Graduates in Information Technology and Soft Skills

With a view to meet the immediate trained human resource requirements of the IT & ITES industries, it is proposed to set up a chain of finishing school programmes for engineering graduates. As per the directives of MHRD, Government of India, NITs and IITs will conduct finishing school programmes during May-June 2008 ,as was done by some of them last year. This effort has the twin objectives of (i) offering suitable candidates to the IT industry and (ii) helping young graduates find jobs through appropriate training. Therefore the purpose of this training is to enhance and sharpen the required skills among engineering graduates and make them employable in the IT & ITES industry.. ASIAN COLLEGE OF JOURNALISM - Admissions

Eligibility

College or university graduates in any discipline and students awaiting their degree examination results are eligible to apply for admission to the ACJ. Although most of the students admitted will be from India, the College expects to offer a certain number of places to suitable candidates from elsewhere in South Asia and from other parts of the world.

Examination

Candidates short-listed after a careful assessment of applications, will take an entrance examination on May 25, 2008. The examination will be administered in Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Kochi, New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Patna, Thiruvananthapuram and possibly other cities, depending on the number of applications received from a particular region.

The examination will be in two parts: (a) to test the applicant’s English language skills and facility and (b) the awareness of current affairs and general knowledge. It will also test the candidates’ writing ability and assess their analytical thinking and problem-solving skills. Other procedures may be prescribed for candidates from abroad.

Interview

Applicants from India who have done well in the entrance examination will be invited to an interview at the College in mid-June. Up to 40 students will be finally selected for the Print Media stream, up to 30 for New Media, and up to 30 for the Television stream and up to 15 for the Radio stream.

M.Tech program in Nanomedical Sciences, the first of its kind in Nanomedicine in India started in August 2007 at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham in Kochi, Kerala. This program is now a joint Amrita/Department of Science and Technology (DST) program. Admission to this M.Tech program at the Amrita Centre for Nanosciences is announced for the academic year 2008. 10 of 30 selected students will be funded by a prestigious DST fellowship.

The interdisciplinary program provides expertise in nanomaterial and nanomaterials processing, bio-nanotechnology and nano-medical sciences with the combined expertise of over 20 Amrita faculty members. Interested students with Masters in Physics, Chemistry, Polymer Science, Pharmaceutical Sciences or Biotechnology; B.Tech in Biomedical, Biotechnology or Polymer Engineering; MBBS and BDS can apply for the 30 available seats in this interdisciplinary M.Tech program. Students who have qualified GATE in any of the above disciplines are strongly encouraged to apply.

ADMISSION PROCEDURE :

For MBA & MCA Programmes selection will be made based on the marks obtained in the Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test (TANCET) conducted by the Anna University on behalf of the Government of Tamil Nadu, following the Community-wise reservation as stipulated by the Government.

The candidates from other states except SC/ST candidates, will be considered under General Turn.
Therefore, the candidates (including other State candidates) who aspire for admission in the University of Madras, shall appear for the Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test (TANCET) to be conducted on 17.05.2008. The details on the Entrance Examinations has been published in the dailies on 16.03.2008.

Those who are appearing for University Final year Examinations in April/May 2008, may also apply for TANCET 2008 and for admission to the MBA & MCA programmes in the University departments 15% supernumerary seats are available for MBA (Regular) and MCA programme for the Foreign National/ NRI having a foreign passport and valid VISA, without Entrance Examination.

15% supernumerary seats are available for MBA Self-supportive for sponsored candidates. The sponsored candidates also must appear for TANCET. Candidates applying for self-supportive MBA programme should not undertake employment during the course.

DATE OF ENTRANCE EXAMINATION FOR M.PHIL & P.G. PROGRAMMES:

Those who are appearing for University final year examinations in April/May 2008 may also apply for all the programmes. The Entrance Examination will be held form 2nd June 2008 onwards. The Heads of the Departments concerned will issue Hall-tickets indicating the place, date and time for Entrance Examination. Such of those candidates who have not received Hall-tickets in time due to Postal delay etc. have to contact the Head of the department concerned for getting necessary permission to take Entrance examination.

ISSUE OF APPLICATIONS IN PERSON:

Application and Academic Prospectus can be had in person at the information centre, University of Madras, Chennai - 600005 on payment of Rs. 200/- (Rs. 100/- for SC/ST candidates on production of xerox copy of the community certificate) by cash for all the programmes.

ISSUE OF APPLICATIONS BY POST:

Those who want to obtain application and the Prospectus by Post have to send a written requisition specifying the name of the programme together with a Demand Draft for a sum of Rs. 250/- (Rs. 200/- towards cost of Application and Rs. 50/- towards postage) drawn in favour of "The Registrar, University of Madras Chennai-5" for admission to all the programmes.

Application can also be down loaded from the University website at unom.ac.in However, the cost of application for Rs. 200/- by means of Demand Draft shall be enclosed, failing which the application will be summarily rejected.

Separate application for each programme along with required attested Xerox copies of certificates shall be submitted direct to the Head of the University Department concerned. The University reserves the right to suspend the conduct of any course if the circumstances so warrant. The University will not be held responsible for any Postal delay.

ADMISSION NOTIFICATION FOR MCA PROGRAMME - 2008

Applications are invited for admission to the full-time Master of Computer Applications (MCA) Programme 2008-2011, at Mesra and our Extension Centres at Allahabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lalpur and Noida. Please see below for addresses and contact details of Centres.

Eligibility: Candidates must hold a recognized Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (minimum in 10+2+3 system), in any of following: (1) BCA, or (2) B.Sc. in Computer Science / Information Technology / Electronics, or (3) B.Sc. / B.A. with Mathematics or Statistics at graduate level. Candidates of B.Sc. / B.A. Honours must have minimum 60% (50% for SC/ST) marks in average in their Honours subject. Candidates of other graduate courses must have minimum 60% (50% for SC/ST) marks in average in graduation, marks to be computed as average of marks obtained in ALL subjects in which candidate has appeared (excluding optional subjects). Candidates must also have passed in ALL subjects in which they have appeared in Class 10 (excluding optional subjects) with minimum 60% (50% for SC/ST) marks in average. Marks in Class 10 to be computed as average of marks obtained in ALL subjects in which candidate has appeared (excluding optional subjects). Candidates must have passed in ALL subjects in which they have appeared in Class 12 (excluding optional subjects) with minimu 60% (50% for SC/ST) marks in average. Marks in Class 12 to be computed as average of best 5 subjects in which candidate has appeared (excluding optional subjects). Candidates graduating in 2008 can also apply, provided they can submit marksheets by 31 October 2008. Candidates with qualifications acquired through correspondence or distance-learning programmes are eligible only if they acquired such qualifications as working professionals / while in employment.

Selection Procedure: Online Entrance Test on 24 and 25 May 2008 at Allahabad, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Mumbai, Noida and Ranchi. It is proposed to hold the MCA 2008 Online Entrance Test at the following Test Centres - Allahabad, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Mumbai, Noida, and Ranchi - provided there are sufficient number of candidates at each of the given Test Centres. In case the number of candidates opting for a given Test Centre is less than a certain minimum, the Institute reserves the right to shift candidates to the nearest alternative Centre.

How to Apply: The MCA 2008 Application Material including the Information Brochure 2008 can be obtained from all our Centres at the addresses given below
(a) In person from 19 March 2008 to 28 April 2008 on payment of Rs. 1,200/- and
(b) By post on payment of Rs. 1,300/- (All payments by crossed DD in favour of Birla Institute of Technology, payable at Ranchi). Postal requests must be received by 22 April 2008, and must include covering letter & two slips of paper (10x10 cm) with name, address in capitals and telephone number. To apply for the programme, eligible candidates may either (a) Fill in the printed form, available with the MCA 2008 Application Material, and send the completed form with 2 photographs and photocopies of all certificates, to reach the office of the Dean Admissions, Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Ranchi 835215, by 5 May
2008, or
(b) Fill in the online application form on website, and send a printout of the completed form with 2 photographs, crossed DD for Rs. 1,200/- in favour of Birla Institute of Technology, payable at Ranchi, and photocopies of certificates by 5 May 2008, at the same address. On receipt of the completed form and DD, online applicants will be sent a copy of the MCA 2008 Application Material and Information Brochure 2008 for reference.
