Monuments In India - Red Fort
The Red fort was built in 1648 by the Mughal Emperor Shahjahan. There are over five hundred buildings within the fort. This fort was used as the administrative centre for the Mughal Emperors. Inside the fort there is a street Chatta Chowk, meant for the royal ladies to purchase their favourites. Shahjahan demolished many sandstone buildings and built marble placed in their place. The Peacok Throne of Shahjahan is placed in a marble palace here. Every year Independence Day is celebrated colourfully in the Red Fort. Above all, the Red fort shows the architectural style of the Mughal Emperors.
