Monuments In India - Sri Padmanabha Swami Temple
This temple of religious heritage is located at Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. The presiding deity is Mahavishnu reclining on the serpent Anantha (Ananthasayanam). The complete figure of Ananthasayanam can be seen through three doors of front of the garbhagriha. The seven-storeyed tower (Gopuram) built in Dravidian architecture is 100 metres high. The top of this tower is ornamented with seven golden domes. Mythological illustrations are carved on the tower. There is a pool in front of this temple for rituals. Shops selling flowers and ritual items can be seen lined on either side of the path to the entrance. Carved wooden beams and ornamental pillars inside the temple show the architectural skill of the builders. A huge, single carved rock placed in front of the sanctum (ottakkalmandapam) is a special attraction of this temple.
